Septic Systems 1-2-3
The Use and Maintenance of A Residential
Onsite Wastewater Treatment System

The St. Joseph River Basin Commission in cooperation with the Michiana Area Council of Governments have produced an 11--minute video related to the use and maintenance of a septic system.  Copies can be picked up at the MACOG Office.

Knowing the limits of an on-site sewage disposal system often will make the difference if a system fails or functions well for many years.  As people exit the cities and move into rural or suburban settings, they are often uninformed, or misinformed about septic systems.

Septic Systems 1-2-3 is a non-technical video to inform the average homeowner, what their responsibilities are in using and maintaining their septic system.  The video identifies some of the common activities that may result in system failure, walks the viewer through the layout of a conventional gravity-fed system, and gives some suggestions for insuring the system will not fail prematurely.

Copies of the video will be available at all local libraries throughout the Indiana portion of the St. Joseph River Basin, local health departments, title and real estate offices and the offices of the Michiana Area Council of Governments and the St. Joseph River Basin Commission.

Contact sjrbcdir@macog.com or  macogdir@macog.com to receive a copy of the video or to obtain more information.
